A beginner's guide to being wrong faster

/ 1 min read

PLACEHOLDER: dummy copy to show the tone. Not a real post. Replace or delete.

Step one: write it down where other people can see it.

Step two: be wrong in front of them.

Step three: there is no step three. That’s the whole method. It’s very efficient and slightly mortifying.

The idea behind learning in public is that a half-understood thing, written down clearly, teaches you more than a half-understood thing left to rot in a browser tab. (I have a lot of browser tabs. They are not learning anything.)

Some ground rules for this notebook:

  • Say what I tried. Even when it didn’t work. Especially when it didn’t work.
  • Say what I still don’t get. There’s a lot of this. Plenty to go round.
  • Change my mind out loud. Old posts get an update note rather than a quiet edit and a straight face.

If you spot a mistake, you’re probably right. Be kind about it. I’m a human, mostly.
